About
We build browser extensions, and we document them properly
Extension.lat is a small independent shop. We design, build and maintain every extension on this site — nobody else publishes here, and nothing is listed that we did not write.
Why we build these
Browser extensions have the deepest access of any software most people install. An extension with permission to read and change data on all sites can see your email, your bank, your work tools and everything you type into them. Most store listings mention none of this. They show a rating, a screenshot and an install count — three numbers that say nothing about what the software does while it is running.
We started extension.lat in 2024 because the tools we wanted did not exist in a form we were willing to install: the good ones asked for far more than they needed, and the convenient ones paid for themselves by watching where you went. So we build the versions we would install ourselves, and we publish the details we always had to dig for.
How we build
Every extension we ship goes through the same four stages.
- One job, done properly. Each extension solves a single problem end to end, rather than half-solving five. Scope is the feature.
- Built to a permission budget. We design each feature around the narrowest permission that can deliver it. When a feature needs access we are not comfortable asking for, the feature loses, not the principle.
- Documented before release. Every extension gets a page like the ones on this site: what it does, what it touches, what it cannot do, and the limits worth knowing before you rely on it.
- Maintained after release. Browsers change their extension platform constantly. We keep shipping updates, and we keep these pages in step with the version you actually have installed.
What this site is not
This is not a directory, a marketplace or an app store. There is no submission form, no way to buy a listing, and no mechanism for anyone to publish software here. We do not host, mirror or distribute other people extensions — every install button on this site points at the official Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons listing for an extension we wrote.
If you were looking for a review of somebody else software, this is the wrong site, and we would rather say so than pad these pages out with opinions about products we do not maintain.
What we will not do
Some of these are worth writing down precisely because they are common in this industry:
- Selling, sharing or brokering anything about the pages you visit.
- Adding a permission because it might be useful later, rather than because a feature needs it now.
- Injecting affiliate links, coupons or advertising into the pages you browse.
- Locking a feature that already shipped behind a new account or subscription.
- Selling an extension to a buyer who would do any of the above to its users.
How this is paid for
Our extensions are free, and they carry no advertising, no affiliate links and no telemetry. The work is funded by the client projects that come from doing it well — the extensions are the portfolio, not the product being monetised.
If that ever changes — a paid tier, a pro version, anything with money attached — the price and exactly what it unlocks will be written on that extension page before it ships, and the free version will not quietly lose features it already had. See the disclosure page for the current state of that in full.
Language and support
The site is written in English because that is the shared language of the extension ecosystem, and we answer email in English and Spanish. The name is a nod to where the work is done.
Support goes to a person, not a queue. Bug reports and feature requests from people who use the extensions are the main input into what we build next.
Principles
The four rules we do not bend
-
Permissions before features
A feature that needs access to everything you do does not ship. We design to the narrowest permission that can deliver the job, and we write the list out in plain language on every extension page.
-
Your data is not the business model
We do not sell data, broker it, or hand it to an analytics vendor. There is nothing to sell, because our extensions do their work on your machine and keep the results there.
-
Nothing injected into your pages
No advertising, no coupon overlays, no rewritten links, no affiliate redirects. An extension of ours changes the page only in the way its own description says it does.
-
Small on purpose
We would rather maintain a handful of extensions properly for years than ship a catalogue we cannot keep up with. Every release is one we still stand behind.
